Meet Bill Manning
Candidate for LaRue County School Board
District 2
WHO IS BILL MANNING
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, I am Army Veteran and a Christian who loves God, my family, His Church, and America. Our military family settled in LaRue County two years ago. We moved here from Iowa in 2021 and have lived in Kentucky for a total of six years. My wife, Petra, is from Germany, and we are parents of seven children who reside separately in Iowa, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and Texas. We have a daughter who is a senior at Campbellsville University. Our children have attended both public and private schools across six different states
WHY VOTE FOR ME
So, why should you vote for me? I cannot answer that question for you because I will not presume to know what people think or believe. I am not a politician. Don’t want to be! I just know our educational system is broken and has been for a long time.
The major fault for its failure does not lie at the feet of our classroom teachers. Our nation’s schools are victims of bad government policies, far left union influences, and corporate greed. Add to these draconian beasts the fact a teacher’s classroom is populated by an unusual increase in students with physical, emotional and social concerns often related to the conditions in their homes. Today’s teachers are being asked to be truant officers, compliance officers, counselors, mediators, psycho-social interventionist, managers, mentors, coaches, paralegals, and life-long learners. This they must do and keep track of so they can prepare for and undergo complex non-productive evaluations whose purpose serves more to punish and indoctrinate them than to inspire and encourage them. It all is a huge mess and shows no signs of improvement.
When politicians, unions, and educational stakeholders are asked what is needed to turn our scholastic ship right side up, their resounding answer is usually “more taxpayer money!” I reject this answer outright. Throwing good hard-earned money at a broke system is foolish. We must fix the way we do business. Public education is not improving within its current structure. Recognizing this fact is the first step to bringing about change and improvement and I am committed to seeking such reform.
WHAT DO I BRING TO THE TABLE
Our current school board members are native to Kentucky. There is nothing necessarily bad about this fact; but sometimes an outsider can bring new ideas and a fresh perspective. This is where I come in. Our family has lived, worked and been educated in multiple states. We are aware of what education look like across the nation and inside both our private and public schools. Our kitchen table conversations have often been about “what is going on at school?” We attended our fair share of parent-teacher conferences, competitions, special assemblies, classroom parties, fundraisers, field trips, home and away games.
Ordained to the gospel ministry 42 years ago in Jackson, MS, I’ve served as both a pastor and chaplain. I’ve administered programs, taught in the classroom, and managed employees. As a soldier I’ve served in other nations within different cultures. As a Boy Scout leader I worked with my scouting leadership to train and develop scouts while participating in a plethora of camp-outs, seminars, and adventure trips. I’ve worked as a teacher for a year in both a private (Louisiana) and a public school (Iowa).
God has blessed us with a wonderful life and, if elected, I would use the experiences and knowledge he provided me to improve the state of education in LaRue County.
WHAT WILL I DO
I will represent you. I will fight to clean up our libraries, clean up our budget, and work to clean up our curriculum. It is high time we take back our schools and restore common sense teaching in our classrooms. We must focus on developing a more responsible and informed generation of Kentuckians who understand the ideas, principles and work ethic of former generations.
While our public educational complex is expensive, intrusive, sometimes abusive and politically protected, it must be reorganized to serve the interest of “We the People.” While I can do little to impact the size of such a monster, I can be your eyes and voice for common sense. Citizens of LaRue County can affect change if we work together to let our voices be heard. This is our school district!
